August 2021 – Gin Shopping and More

I started this post early in August, as I already had 5 bottles to discuss, and made a decision to STOP then. A few days later gin-pal from WSM sent me a pic of a bargain in TK Maxx, so that made it 6. (I’m weak!)

6 bottles, I know, but hear me out.

  • 1 was a work gift
  • 1 was £14.99 in Waitrose on sale
  • 1 was a swap
  • 1 was Craft Gin Club (CGC)
  • 1 was a limited edition – I HAD TO HAVE IT
  • And then the last one – bargain at £20 from TK Maxx

Now to STOP until Junipalooza in September – I’ve even suspended CGC and I’m not going to look and see what the September bottle is.

July 2021 – Gin Shopping – and more

Hard to talk about July without talking about the weather.  How HOT was it.  It was really hot, and we were in a tent at Silverstone – there for the F1, but Im not complaining, Im happier in the sun than the cold, just rather be near a pool to cool off in.  Busy month, with a couple of distillery trips chucked in for good measure, and a few purchases (and quite a few empties!).

June 2021 – Gin Shopping and More

How is it July already… Its so nice being able to go out again, it’s warmer, pubs are open, gin distilleries are doing visits and tours and we can at last hug our friends and family.  What did June throw at me, well there was a long awaited visit to Chew Valley Distillery, Craft Gin Club delivery, a few purchases, a week on the Isle of Wight and ended the month with a brilliant Negroni Club Zoom social.

May 2021 – Gin Shopping

May was quite a good month for me, although my other half has had to work a crazy amount of overtime including all weekends and bank holidays. I’m currently studying for the WSET Level 2 in Spirits, and treated myself to a few non-gin items for the cupboard to experiment with. So with the boss at work, and the sun out, I’ve been making cocktails! Being able to meet up with friends again has been great and there’s plenty more of that planned.

April 2021 – Gin Shopping

Tall gins! That’s what April was mostly about, Sky Wave excluded. These cause me a headache as I only have 1 shelf I can fit them on, and even then the Pier gin doesn’t fit, and has to sit on the top. Ah well, the downside is its easy to get to, which means I will probably get through it rather quickly. No ticks on the wish list this month though, but 4 great additions.

January 2021 – Gin Shopping

First up, confession time.  When I pulled together all my December gin, I totally missed the Gooseberry Whitley Neil which was my Secret Santa present for our Running/Ginning girls group.  We met on zoom, for the Psychopomp Christmas party, which we usually do at their shop in Bristol.  After our Party we carried on as it was one our ladies birthdays, so we had a party, with cake and balloons.  We also did our Secret Santa, and I got a lovely bottle of gin!  Thank you Maria, and apologies for missing this off my December additions.

Second thing, this isn’t a review of gins – you should know that now, but it’s just what I’ve bought – and I’m ashamed to say of the bottles above, 2 are yet to be opened and tried!

December 2020 – Psychopomp Distillers Table

This would have been our 3rd year of causing mayhem in the corner of the small shop the Psychopomp hail from in Bristol, but due to the Covid thing, we had to move on line.  The theme was set by them – a Christmas Nativity (previous years have been movies, and an office Christmas party), and dressing up for the occasion was encouraged.  I was allocated the role of Wise Woman 2, and received my lines…(ok, line), which had to be said when instructed.  We combined the event with a virtual party for one of our group who was 50 on 11th Dec, and as we had to cancel our girls weekend away, we decided to do the Psychopomp event first, then carry on after on zoom for her birthday, organising someone to take presents, balloons and cake to her whilst we were all on line.  Cocktails collected, delivered and cooled we were ready for the evening at 18.00.  What a hoot, few sound issues to start, but once sorted, it was great fun.  They had so many people lined up to join in, and throughout the evening we tucked into the delicious drinks they provided.  It was great fun, and when the story was told, and all the drinks drunk, we headed off onto our zoom call for a 50th party.

No idea what we had now, other than one was Eggnog, but it was all delicious and I can highly recommend their events and drinks! Tonight we are doing the NYE event, and my drinks will be collected for me around 14.00.

December 2020 – Gin Shopping

You should know by now, I don’t do reviews, I’m hopeless at working out the tastes, and don’t like gin neat.  I’m not a gin expert or proper blogger, I just like collecting and drinking the stuff, and this is a little round up of what I have acquired this month.  1 – I bought, 1 – is a monthly club, 1 – was a prize, and 1 – a gift!  The month did start well though, as we had the annual Psychopomp Christmas Event (see separate post) which moved to a virtual event this year, and I had The Gin to my Tonic advent calendar to get through from 13th December. – oh and a couple of mini’s.
